PUB Crawl for October 17, 2016

Phil Penn GwynnAs I gear up for three awesome NPSP community events in the next four weeks (get ready Washington DC, San Francisco, and Vancouver), I decided it might be a good time to unpack from Dreamforce. With notes scribbled on the sides of business cards and flyers, I figure others are in the same boat, scratching their heads trying to remember everything they heard at Dreamforce.

How about we dive into the list of "wait, did someone tell me that I could do..." items in this week's PUB Crawl!

Great Posts from the Salesforce Power of Us Hub

  1. What is your best practice for aliases/alternate name spellings?
Laura Useche (Jewish Family Service - Seattle)

People already spell my name incorrectly enough to make a suggestion like this worthwhile.

  2. Restoring deleted records from a weekly backup
    Nicola Berry (Locality)

When that automated email notification enters your inbox saying that your data has been backed up, you pat yourself on the back. Job well done. But wait! What about when you actually have to use that data? No gold stars until you have a plan...like this.

  3. How do I add static text to a Contact page?
    Katie Doyle (Cupid Charities)

You can add custom fields, but what if you just want to add text that appears on every record for a particular object?

  4. Interested in participating in user experience (UX) research for the NPSP?
    Mary Pustejovsky (Salesforce.org)

Desperately seeking a return of a helpful on-screen friend like Microsoft's "Clippy"? Feel that every NPSP page should have a Homer Simpson in one corner, and a doughnut in the other? Now's your time to contribute your constructive UX ideas for the NPSP!

  5. List of features that require additional setup if you installed NPSP prior to a certain version
    Jeff Issenberg (Exponent Partners)

Assuming you're not sitting in your office continuously refreshing the NPSP release group, where can you find a list of all the custom fields added after a particular release?

  6. NPSP Advisory Board Meeting Minutes 09/20/16
    Katie McFadden (Swift River Consulting)

People are saying that the NPSP Advisory board meets in gold-filled rooms discussing topics like the best local espresso bean roasters in their hometowns. True? Read the meeting minutes to learn what your advocates are doing.

Great Ideas for Nonprofits Using Salesforce

  1. Ease release adoptions with an "Upgrade Manager"
    Amanda Styles (Literacy Action)

Wouldn't it be nice to see, in one place directly within the NPSP, the updates that have happened in a particular release and the effort you need to do to take advantage of these updates?

That's all for this week! Did I miss something? Have any tips or suggestions? Send all tip jar suggestions to me at cozimek@picnet.net.

Keep soaking up the goodness!

Ryan
